Lincoln Park

Love in the park

Nature can bring you to stillness, that is its gift to you.

– Eckhart Tolle

The juxtaposition between ocean and forest is the full pleasure of nature for me. In most places you get one or the other. We are blessed in the PNW to experience both at the same time. Standing on the waterfront while taking in enormous trees and ferns of all types, take a long, deep breath. What is that feeling? Peace? Solitude? The feeling that the world is way bigger than yourself? Helps me keep some perspective in my mind.

The LOVE picture at the top created with a collection of flowers, shells and rocks is a great example of the artistic pieces that you can find throughout this region. In parks, alley’s, buildings… there are seemingly random art creations to enjoy. Sometimes it sparks a bit of creative muse, other times I stop and enjoy the piece, recognizing the creative minds that are all around me. Sometimes when I take a walk around on the forested pathways, I can find little gnome figurines, small wooden animals or unexpected public library boxes filled with nature books for kids.

The day I visited this park, it had just started to turn into Spring. Little flowers were popping up all over the forested area and along the walkway dear the water. After a very LONG Washington winter full of dark skies and cold weather, Spring around here is a joyous occasion. I find myself really stopping to admire the flowers, thankful that they have ended their ‘wintering.’ I have seen fields of little daisies like the one pictured above that carpet the ground like a sea of happiness. It is hard to walk along so many different kinds of flowers, watching the bees bumble around from one to another and not smile. Summer is coming!

Flowers are the music of the ground. From earth’s lips spoken without sound.”
