Shady Lake- Lake Desire, WA

This past weekend, we purchased a used kayak. Immediately we wanted to test it out to make sure it was ‘seaworthy.’ We found a small lake about 30 min away that was hidden in a residential area, but open to fishing and non-motorized water craft. What a hidden gem!

Although Shady lake is very small, it was a calm and relaxing first voyage. Surrounded by private homes which had their own personal docks on the water, it was a a great place to drop in the water using the easy access boat launch and parking right at the waterfront.

If you look closely at this pic, you can see a huge stuffed teddy bear sitting in a lounge chair as if waiting for his BBQ hot dog on a warm, sunny day. The residents here seem to really understand that peaceful, quiet time is essential to their wellbeing. There were a couple of homes for sale and looking up the prices, I wasn’t surprised to see they were priced in the one million category. If I won the lottery, you would definitely find me in a house on a lake.

“Self-care is anything that you do for yourself that feels nourishing,” says

Marni Amsellem, PhD, a licensed psychologist based in Trumbull, Connecticut.

Self-care requires checking in with yourself and asking yourself how you’re doing and what your body’s asking for. Some people use it to deal with difficult news stories, others just to maintain their happiness day to day. Self-care does not mean the same thing for everyone. Different people will adopt different self-care practices, and even your own definition might change over time. https://www.everydayhealth.com/self-care/
