Summer is a beautiful time in the North West WA area. There are so many lakes and rivers to explore in a variety of ways. One of my favorite ways to enjoy the water is to float down a river in tube. This particular tubing route takes about 4 or 5 hours from drop in to exit. It may seem like a long time, but once you are on the water, the time really just floats by. 😉

A bonus to the already enjoyable floating down the river.. there are a couple of stopping points for rope swings and this downed log that people are able to jump into the water. It is so fun to watch adults find joy in play.
While play is crucial for a child’s development, it is also beneficial for people of all ages. Play can add joy to life, relieve stress, supercharge learning, and connect you to others and the world around you. Play can also make work more productive and pleasurable. – HelpGuide.org
“We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything, than when we are at play.”
-Charles Schaefer
I don’t normally include personal pics in these blogs because I think it can be distracting to the info and the beautiful nature pictures. I wanted to include this one because I typically don’t like pics of myself. I find one or 100 things about the pic that I don’t like. This one though, I really like. I can tell I am authentically happy, which is what this whole journey has been about. Finding my happiness.

If you are interested in trying out Fall City Floating.. here is the contact info for the organization that you can rent a tube and/or get transportation to the top to retrieve your vehicle.

A few things I learned I learned the hard way about this fun activity…
If you are not renting floats/tubes, blow them up at home before you go out for the day. Blowing them up in the parking lot while its 95 degrees outside is not fun. Also, you run the risk of your pump breaking, not working, or forgetting it at home. (all things I have personally experienced… in one trip LOL.)
Another important thing is to bring sunscreen on the float with you. If you are going to be in the water for 4 or 5 hours, you will need to reapply that sunscreen or you may end up REALLY sunburnt.
A warning about alcohol/substance use while floating– getting buzzed or feeling a bit relaxed using substances can be fun. Getting wasted can be extremely dangerous for yourself and those around you. Alcohol and heat together make you more intoxicated than you would expect. I have seen people out on the water not being able to hold onto their floats because they were too drunk. With the water being 50 degrees or less at times, it really only takes a few minutes before your muscles will slow down and make it even more difficult to get back onto your float. If you are with a group of people who are also getting drunk or stoned, they won’t be able to help very much either or may be involved in other conversations to even notice that you may be struggling.
